Roads & Highways
Interstate highway: I-40, I-440 Beltline, I-540
The Beltline makes a loop around the city. While it can be confusing,
there are references to an “Inner Beltline”, and “Outer
Beltline” and an “Outer Loop”. The Inner and Outer
Beltline (both I-440) are the same road; the terms “inner”
and “outer” simply refer to the positioning of the lanes
of traffic; thus the Inner Beltline runs inside of the Outer Beltline.
The Inner Beltline runs clockwise; the Outer runs counter-clockwise.
The Outer Loop refers to I-540, which is still under construction and
does not yet completely encircle the city.
