Raleigh’s Parks and Recreation Department offers more than 150
sites: 8100 acres of park land, 54 miles of greenway, 22 staffed community
centers, a BMX champion race track, 112 tennis courts at 25 locations,
5 lakes, and 8 swimming facilities.
Part
of North Carolina State University, the JC Raulston Arboretum offers
an impressive, year-round botanical collection. Admission is free to
the public.
There
are a few well-known bike routes that travel through Raleigh.
One
is the NC-DOT Mountains-to-Sea bicycle route, and the other is the Maine-to-Florida
bicycle route #1. The NC-DOT Cape Fear Run bicycle route connects Apex
to Wilmington.

Kids Museum
A hands-on interactive museum that inspires children to pretend, use

fun! Marbles is also home to NC's only 3D IMAX Theatre. Visit Marbles

Lake
Crabtree County Park
Located on Aviation Parkway (exit 285 off I-40), Lake Crabtree County
Park's 200 acres provide exciting opportunities for enjoying the outdoors.
On the shores of a 500-acre flood control lake, Lake Crabtree County
Park attracts boaters, fishermen, group and individual picnickers, hikers,
mountain bikers and nature lovers. Picnic shelters may be reserved for
group rentals.

In 1997 the NHL’s Hartford Whalers moved from Hartford, Connecticut
to Raleigh, becoming the Carolina Hurricanes. They currently play in
a stadium built just for the team and completed in 199, the Raleigh
Entertainment and Sports Arena or RBC Center. In 2006 the Hurricanes
won the Stanley Cup w/a victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
Additionally, the Carolina Railhawks of the United Soccer Leagues play
in the neighboring city of Cary.
Aside from team sports, Raleigh has hosted the Nationwide Tour Rex Hospital
Open since 1994. The Tour Rex Hospital Open is part of the annual PGA
tour.
Amateur
Raleigh is home to the North Carolina Tigers, an Australian Rules football
club in the USAFL (United States Australian Rules Football Leagues)
and competing in the EAFL (Eastern Australia Football League). The Carolina
Rollergirls are also based in Raleigh. They are competing members of
the WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association).
